Educational Programme: Journalism (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 8

Year of Graduation: 2024

The study examines the coverage of green topics and their correlation with global environmental issues in the Russian media. This allows for an assessment of how a typical discourse is implemented in a non-typical region and to what extent the topic of ecology is on the agenda in Russian society. The research was conducted using computational linguistics and a combination of frame, discourse, and content analysis methods. These methods allowed us to analyze a large number of articles and draw conclusions about the discourse and topics of the messages. The theoretical part of the research focuses on the most serious environmental problems according to the UN. Additionally, this section examines research on media coverage of environmental issues and communication on green topics. The study's empirical section analyses publications on ecology from the most quoted federal news agencies (RIA Novosti, TASS) for 2020-2021 and 2022-2023. This analysis will allow for an assessment of the dynamics of interest in ecology and possible changes in interest and discourses after the events of 2022.
