This work is devoted to the exploration of possible ways emotions can be represented in film using the case of Denis Villeneuve's films: "Arrival" (2016), "Blade Runner 2049" (2017) and "Dune" (2021). Modern authors do not pay enough attention to visual and sound cinematographic techniques involved in the representation of characters’ emotions. This study aims to fill this gap and provides an example of an analysis of various techniques that can be used for the representation of emotions. This work proposes a methodology that incorporates elements of H. Korte's method for systematic film analysis. The developed framework can be applied to analyze films and other audio-visual products, as well as serve as a set of recommendations for the practical filmmaking process. Additionally, this study attempts a comprehensive examination of the specific aspects of D. Villeneuve's directing.
