Narrative Techniques in Video Games and Films of the Horror Genre: a Comparative Analysis

This study delves deep into the captivating realm of horror in interactive media and cinema, especially focusing on its evolution and adaptation at the turn of the 21st century. The horror genre, renowned for its ability to enrapture audiences with fear and anxiety, has undergone significant transformations with the advent of new technologies and interactive platforms, particularly in the realm of video games. The aim of my research is to analyze and systematize the role of narrative techniques in horror video games and cinema. To achieve this goal, I set myself the following tasks: to explore the theoretical premises, analyze the methodological basis, and conduct a comparative analysis of gaming and cinematographic contexts. The analysis sheds light on the importance of understanding the impact of artistic techniques on audience perception, particularly in a genre heavily reliant on eliciting emotional responses. By examining both cinema and interactive media formats, this study provides valuable insights into the benefits of utilizing interactive media for content creators. Ultimately, the findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between artistic techniques and audience engagement, offering guidance for maximizing their effectiveness across different media formats.
