In recent years, it has become obvious that China is gaining more power both in the economic and political spheres. Like any powerful state, the People's Republic of China (PRC) has its own areas of interest. The Chinese government, along with advancing the initiatives which are aimed at accomplishing these interests, also faces the challenges of ensuring that they operate sustainably, while being profitable for China. This paper aims to evaluate the role of economic initiatives proposed by China in Southeast and East Asia in the 21st century.
