Video Podcasts as the New Phenomenon: the Analysis of Public Interest in Visual Forms of Podcasting

Student: Grebennikova Anna

Supervisor: Anna Novikova

Faculty: Faculty of Creative Industries

Educational Programme: Transmedia Production in Digital Industries (Master)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The relevance of the study is due to the fact that an active request is being created in online communities for the production of video podcasts, which is confirmed by a large number of views of this type of content and its inclusion in the "Popular" and "Recommendations" sections. Social networks themselves are also interested in promoting specifically video materials, since they catch the consumer's eye faster, unlike static images, which forces users to stay on their platforms longer and succumb to "mind scrolling" (mindless scrolling of the tape). The purpose of the study is to consider video podcasting from the point of view of one of the most popular Internet entertainment formats of our time, identifying its positive and negative sides and analyzing opposing opinions. The object of the study is video podcasts. The subject of the study is the phenomenon of the popularity of video podcasting both from the point of view of the consumer and from the point of view of the commercial feasibility of its creators. Hypothesis: the complete transition of the podcasting industry completely into the entertainment format of "video shows" will be possible if streaming platforms that provide only audio content will significantly decrease in performance compared to video hosting content, and modern consumers in their minds will finally perceive podcasts exclusively as a visual work.
