Changing Specialty in Master\'s Degree: Factors and Effects

This work’s objective is to identify and study the factors behind the phenomenon of changing specialty of master’s degree. While there is deep research concerning bachelor’s degree, postgraduates remain relatively unstudied. Moreover, switching majors has not been the main focus of any research yet, even though there is a number of students who do this. The research is be conducted on Russian administrative data of graduates and postgraduates, who obtained their degrees in 2021. The main methods are descriptive and regression analysis. The results show what types of students change their specialty and how that decision effects their labour market outcomes.
