Small and Medium Business Development and Financial Performance of Marketplaces: the Role of Country Characteristics

Nowadays e-commerce is one of the most rapidly developing fields of economy. Marketplaces are the companies leading their business in the field of e-commerce. Marketplaces grow at a high pace which besides other factors is determined by small and medium business sector development. Small and medium enterprises are providers of goods to marketplaces. Research was conducted on the basis of marketplaces' financial data and small and medium business characteristics in Brazil, China, Indonesia and South Africa for the period 2013 - 2022. The results showed that small and medium business characteristics such as the score of doing business in the country, amount of loans, interest rate on loans and taxation are the significant factors of small and medium business which influence financial data of marketplaces.
