In the modern world, the problem of overconsumption at the micro level (at the level of the individual consumer) is relevant from both an economic and social point of view. This work defines the concept of “overconsumption” and its norms; on the basis of existing macro-research, the main material, social, and, most valuable, price factors of overconsumption are determined and operationalized, and the criteria for overconsumption are defined in 2 different approaches. The practical part of the study is based on a sample of young people from Russian big cities, it consists of 2 parts. In the first part, using ordinal logistic regression, we study the influence of price and material factors on the presence/absence of an act of overconsumption. The second part examines the inverse relationship, answering the question “how is the price of a certain product affected by the degree of overconsumption that an individual experienced at the time of making this purchase?”
