The importance of ESG agenda is recognized worldwide and is actively discussed by researchers. However, in the existing scientific literature, authors focus only on the influence of individual CEO characteristics on the overall level of ESG or corporate social responsibility (CSR), without considering the impact of aggregated personal and socio-demographic characteristics on sustainable corporate governance. In order to determine CEO's personality role in the implementation of a company's sustainability strategy, this study aims to assess the impact of various CEO characteristics on the level of sustainable corporate governance in Russian companies. Data on CEO characteristics of Russian public companies were examined using panel regression methodology from 2020 to 2022, with the level of sustainable corporate governance as the dependent variable. All explanatory variables are expected to have a significant impact on the level of sustainable corporate governance of Russian public companies.
