As one of the standards to reflect and measure corporate social responsibility, ESG has been paid more and more attention by Chinese technology companies. ESG involves three main parts: environmental, social and corporate governance, and each part involves many other issues, among which gender equality is one. With the progress of China society and the development of science and technology, although gender equality has been paid more attention, the Chinese society is still relatively conservative. Few scholars have discussed how gender equality is interpreted by companies in ESG strategy, and at the same time, few have investigated how gender performance influences the perception of stakeholders closely related to technology companies. Therefore, this paper attempts to answer the following research questions: How has the gender performance in the ESG strategies of China’s top three e-commerce technology companies evolved in 2019-2023 and how does it affect the perception of employees and consumers. By answering the research questions, this study is expected to be useful for the academic research on Chinese companies, gender studies, and ESG practice.
