This research examines the transformation of international cooperation in the field of innovation in the Russian Federation. International cooperation has changed due to the development of digital technologies and the coronavirus. Among other things, the Russian situation is unique due to the imposition of the largest number of sanctions and restrictions by the United States and European countries. At the same time, innovation processes in general are difficult to study, which increases the need for more research on this topic. The study showed a decrease in a number of indicators related to international cooperation in innovation. The main barriers to international cooperation at different stages were also identified: from finding partners to implementing innovations in foreign markets. New areas for cooperation and the need to adjust some of the legislative acts were formulated. In general, despite the decrease in the level of international cooperation, there are prospects for the future as a result of the fact that the concluded new partnership contracts have not yet had their effect on economic indicators, but in the future it is possible to return to previous levels and further growth with a reorientation to new markets
