In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the politics of memory in Russia, from both state and non-state actors who seek to shape their own interpretations of the historical past. Researchers are also interested in this topic and nowaday they are focusing more on regional politics of memory/ It differs due to the unique history of each region and the interests of local actors promoting their own versions of history. One tool of politics of memory are school textbooks, whose texts represent historical narratives that reflect political and social diversity in society. This study focuses on exploring the issue of how the potential conflict between the federal and regional narratives on the historical past, as presented in school textbooks, is resolved and how the regional historical narrative is integrated into the broader narrative of the country's history. To address this issue, the study performs a narrative analysis of the textual content of both the federal textbook and the textbooks on regional history from the North Caucasus region.
