The aim of this research is to identify the specific features of regional symbolic politics accompanying the celebration of anniversaries of Russian regional capitals. Drawing on the theories of symbolic politics, memory politics and regional politics, I seek to understand these events as performative expressions of power and identity that shape Russia's symbolic landscape at both the federal and regional levels. The method of content analysis is used to achieve the research goal. To understand the scale of existing practices and related factors, as well as the criteria for the “absence” of regional communities in the Russian symbolic landscape, a database of celebrations of anniversaries of regional capitals is formed.
