Most of the time main characters (or the ones that players are supposed to connect with the most) in video games are either humans or creatures that remind us of humans. Why? Is anthropomorphism in any way related to our ability to relate and see ourselves in the characters we play as? In this research i want to closely inspect the connection between a player's ability to relate to the character and the way that character is presented and find answers on following questions. Does anthropomorphism have any influence on how the character is viewed or perceived? Can we, as game designers, communicate thoughts and ideas through characters that don’t look like humans at all with the same efficiency? And how do we make non-anthropomorphic characters more relatable and familiar to the players?
