Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

As video game developers compete for the attention of consumers, it is important for the product to not only be easy to acquire, but easy to understand and play. Naturally, different games have varying levels of difficulty and complexity, but it is vital that the difficulties that players face are intended and accounted for by the developer, rather than occurring out of miscommunication between the game and the player. Different ways of notifying players about in-game dangers and providing helpful information to avoid loss can either greatly enhance the gameplay and make its challenges engaging and entertaining or, on the other hand, completely ruin the immersion of the experience and lead to confusion and frustration. Based on this issue, the project aims to research the way in which game developers can aid the player’s experience with visual and audio signs to warn them of danger or potential failure.
