The of previous studies suggest the existence of a problem of intention and unresolved questions about the inclusion of manipulative and functional types of knowledge about the way of acting with an object in its representation, as well as the degree of influence of these types of knowledge on other cognitive processes, in particular on categorization and the occurrence of the compatibility effect. Also, the problem area of perception of various types of object affordances is insufficiently studied, therefore, there is very little data on the mechanisms of the occurrence of the compatibility effect when perceiving objects with different types of affordances. Moreover, there are objects with a type of affordance that has not been studied in any published study and has not yet been identified as a separate type. An experiment was conducted using the task of rapid categorization, in which the mechanism of occurrence of compatibility effects in the perception of "broken" and "uncomfortable" affordances was investigated, as well as the contribution of manipulative and functional knowledge to the representation of an object and the degree of their influence on other cognitive processes were studied. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that functional knowledge has a greater influence on the processes of categorization, identification and the occurrence of compatibility effects than manipulative knowledge, which may indicate its greater involvement in the representation of the object. The peculiarities of perception of objects with "inconvenient" affordances were also identified, which may contribute to the isolation of these affordances from a separate type and further study of the mechanisms of their perception. This problem area requires further investigation, possibly employing alternative methodologies.
