The present study aims to evaluate the effect of a direct suppression strategy on the accessibility of information in memory. In the context of the classical paradigm involving the observation of suppression-induced forgetting effects, the present work questions the viability of this mechanism. Using data from several previous studies as well as my own analysis of experimental results using single and independent probe tests, contradictory results are found. In addition, existing literature in the field of memory that views forgetting as an active process is analyzed. Although some studies indicate statistically significant differences in item forgetting when items are directly suppressed, others do not support this effect. In light of these findings, it is suggested that the notions of laboratory methodology for suppression induction should be reconsidered, taking into account possible methodological factors affecting the results obtained.
