The theme of visual research «X-ray effect» reflects how phenomenon of transparency and transillumination affected various areas of visual culture, such as photography, architecture, contemporary art and design. The x-ray process relates to design through techniques of transillumination and projection which determine an ability to see objects through bodies. The see-through trend initially appeared in fashion in the 18th century, influenced fashion in the 20th century, and it is still used by designers today. The ability of x-ray to identify what is hidden inside endows a sacral significance to the image. Fashion applies these tools to accentuate what is hidden beneath the textiles, for example the anatomy of a dress.
