Renovation of the Barnaul Silver Smelting Plant

Currently, urban tendencies around the world are experiencing significant changes. One underlying trend is the transferring of industrial complexes beyond the city limits, which raised the issue of former industrial buildings reusability. These buildings comprise a vast abandoned area located in the heart of the city's historical district. For the time being, the renovation practice of industrial complexes is widespread across the globe and enjoys great popularity among citizens. The project aim is to develop a plan for the renovation of Barnaul Silver Smelting Plant, obviate modern tendencies and citizens’ needs. In the course of this work, the author observed and compared similar projects implemented around the world, as well as conducted interviews with residents of Barnaul. The primary purpose of this project proposal is to preserve cultural heritage monuments, create a multifunctional cultural space on their basis and integrate it to the modern context. The diploma project includes 3D visualization of the building, interiors and surrounding territory. The project was created using professional computer programs developed for environmental designers.
