Student: Androsova Darya

Faculty: School of Arts and Humanities

Educational Programme: Design (Bachelor)

Final Grade: 9

Year of Graduation: 2024

In this visual research, the author explores two fundamental concepts related to creating a product – functionality and aesthetics – in the context of a bag as an example. The goal of the study is to examine these concepts independently and through the lens of a specific object, while also classifying objects based on the dominant aspect of their nature in order to support or refute the hypothesis that functionality always takes precedence over aesthetics. The visual research conducted has revealed that aesthetics and function can coexist in a single object, such as a bag. Most often, these seemingly opposing concepts are harmoniously integrated. The author's hypothesis that functionality takes priority over aesthetics is partially supported by the findings of this study.
