As part of the ‘green transition’ in the energy sector, the PRC is expanding the use of renewable energy sources (RES), including in the household sector. Optimising household energy consumption plays an important role in optimising the country's energy mix. The aim of the study is to analyse the problems of renewable energy technology use by PRC households in the 21st century. To achieve this goal, in addition to traditional research methods, a test version of ChatGPT developed by Yandex was used. Today, the most widely used types of renewable energy by households in China are solar, wind and bioenergy. The results of the study showed that the main current challenges to the development of the renewable energy sector in Chinese households are economic barriers, infrastructure constraints, unstable operation of renewable energy equipment in different weather and geographical conditions, quality and capacity of equipment, and safety of its operation. Keywords: China, green transition, renewable energy, sustainable development, carbon dioxide emissions.
