This research examines the evolution of Tatar typography to uncover and systematize the key stages of typeface development throughout the 20th century. These findings reveal the cause-and-effect relationship between Tatar fonts and the censorship in the Russian Empire and the USSR, avant-garde revolutionary ideas, and European and Arabic typographic traditions. Archival book covers, periodicals, photographs, and textual databases from 1900 to 1983 will be analyzed using a qualitative visual method. The primary goal is to explore and systematize the distinct visual features of the Tatar font during different historical periods, and to identify the correlation between key events and typography evolution. This research will culminate in a book that will not only visually confirm its findings but also serve as a foundation for further narrow studies about Tatar typography and national design.
