The visual research is based on works by artists from the Arab and Persian worlds or projects related to these regions. There are also projects about Chechnya, as this territory is important to me personally as part of my biography. The principle of material selection is not only cultural criteria, but also mediums, mostly documentary films, photography and computer games. The main question in the research is: can we look at people from the Middle East and their problems through the prism of Eurocentrism? How can we learn to understand “non-Europeans”? If we do not perceive the European worldview as universal, conflicts would arise and stereotypes would multiply. and stereotypes about “Muslim terrorists” would multiply, would we consider people with a different cultural code as “others”? I want to understand what role art plays in the context of exposing or maintaining an aggressive image of a person from the Middle East by analyzing the notion of visibility of “non-Europeans” in the international contemporary art scene.
