Many studies confirm that central and commercial banks are the drivers of the sustainable development agenda in national economies. Due to geopolitical events, there have been significant changes in various economic processes, which directly affected the relevance of the sustainable development agenda. Despite this, activities in the context of SD continue, but with a slight shift in focus in the Russian Federation. This affects the approaches of financial sector companies to the implementation of the principles of sustainable development. This paper analyzes the basic concepts related to the agenda, as well as regulatory legal acts at the international and national levels, identifies the role of banks in it and analyzes the activities of the largest banks in Russia according to the criteria of 3 segments to identify approaches to sustainable development. The approach of the research object, Alfa-Bank, is also defined. The result of the work is the development of recommendations for Alfa-Bank, taking into account the existing SD approach and the influence of the external environment.
