The aim of my visual research is to confirm or deny the claim that card game design is driven more by factors such as player’s convenience, certain time and place of play than by the visual appeal of graphic elements and illustrations. The objective of the visual study is to compare various card decks from different eras and countries to identify key visual features and historical context. The results of the study showed that the appearance of the decks created a balance between understanding the meanings and pleasing design for the audience who would use them.
