One of the less-explores areas in the studies of Antiquity is the division of space into "private" and "public" zones and the ways of expressing the dichotomy in the Roman state. This phenomenon is evident in the layout of villas, which combined both spheres. The aim of the study is to determine whether aristocratic manors served as a place of intersection of the private and public sectors in the provinces during the Late Republic and the Empire (1st century BC - 5th century AD). The object of the study is the Roman provincial manor. The subject is the plans of manors and the elements of interior decoration. The study is divided into two parts: an analysis of the structure of villas and their interior decoration. A comparison of tendencies of spatial organization in provincial estates with those in the manors in the center of the Roman state is done simultaneously.
