Impact of Carbon Pricing on Scientific and Technical Priorities of Russian Oil and Gas Companies

As human impacts on the environment accumulate, environmental regulation is being strengthened to prevent adverse impacts and mitigate them. In this regard, understanding the trajectory of this enhancement and potential solutions by companies can serve as a key to competitive advantage in the future. An innovative high-tech approach is considered as a cornerstone for a flexible business strategy, especially in Russia's key industry with high environmental impacts - the oil and gas sector. The study addresses the connection between climate policy, carbon pricing as a source of revenue and climate corporate innovation in the Russian oil & gas sector. A comprehensive analysis of the existing literature on the topic and a comparative analysis of carbon pricing mechanisms in Russia, the European Union and China are conducted. The paper analyses the ways in which companies in the oil and gas sector make decisions on the implementation of CCUS technology based on its economic efficiency at different carbon price levels scenarios
