Nowadays transformation of the state’s migration policy is an urgent topic due to the changing global trends. Recently researchers have become more interested in the case of migrants originating from the region of Southeast Asia coming to Japan, which is, on one hand, a traditionally closed country, on the other hand, in recent years has been trying to soften the conditions for giving visas and attract highly - qualified migrants. Nevertheless, few researchers wonder in what way changes in Tokyo's migration policy may affect its cooperation with the country sending migrants. The purpose of this work is to identify how the liberalization of Tokyo's migration policy has influenced the partnership between Japan and Vietnam. In order to distinguish the evolution of the role of migration policy in the relations of these countries, the research will rely on the methods of cross-temporal comparison, as well as qualitative content analysis. The results of the conducted work may be applicable for future researchers, who are concentrated on the impact of migration policy on interstate relations, as well as for specialists involved in forecasting the development of the level of cooperation between Tokyo and Hanoi in future.
