Russian banking sector has experienced many challenges for the last two decades. In this context, the issue of increasing financial stability has become crucial. The researchers consider many factors to be the determinants of the financial stability of a commercial bank, including its ownership type. This study is devoted to the assessment of an ownership type effect on a commercial bank's financial stability. In the study the primary and secondary sources are analysed, the determinants of the financial stability are formulated, the assessment of the financial banks of three types (state-owned, private-owned, foreign) is conducted.
