The adoption of the Law on the Strategic Alliance of the United States and Colombia and the approval by Colombia of Law 2272 "On Universal (Total) Peace" have drawn the attention of the scientific community to the cooperation between the United States and Colombia in the field of security. Despite a sufficient amount of research on bilateral initiatives in the field of combating drug trafficking at the beginning of the 21st century and other security threats, the problems of drug trafficking at the present stage, as well as arms trafficking, cooperation in countering insurgent groups and organized crime remain insufficiently studied. The purpose of the study is to identify the specifics of cooperation between the United States and Colombia in the field of combating non-traditional security threats. To do this, the case study method will be used to consider specific initiatives taken by the United States and Colombia in the framework of ensuring regional security, and the historical genetic method to consider changes in this specifics during the specified time period. The expected results may reveal the specifics of cooperation between the United States and Colombia, for example, the loss of initiative on the part of Colombia and the participation of the United States as an extra-regional hegemon.
