Competencies of a Leader in Retail in the Context of Modern Trends

The work is devoted to the identification of significant competencies of leaders of modern retail. The Russian retail market is constantly changing, and companies must adapt to such changes to win in a highly competitive environment and achieve their goals. As a result, the leaders of modern retail should have a wide range of competencies, a set of which are influenced by global and Russian trends. Retail leaders need to be able to make, understand and deal with changes, analyze global trends and make decisions in situations of high uncertainty. Leadership of this new type is becoming an increasingly important resource for Russian retail companies that want to stay on top or even just keep their positions under the influence of a changing environment. The aim of the study is to determine a set of the most significant competences of leaders of the Russian retail, formed under the influence of modern trends; and also to identify effective tools used by HR-divisions of retail, for the selection and retention of employees during the complex personnel market, the formation of the retail leaders set of necessary competencies. The first chapter analyzes the concept of leadership, theoretical approaches to leadership and describes global and Russian trends using PEST analysis. The second chapter discusses the issues of demand for the competence of leaders in retail and the problems of requalification. The third chapter of the global and Russian leadership research validates the research of demand on the competence of leaders on the example of X5 GROUP, describes the actual competences of leaders of the Russian retail, and provides recommendations for the development of personnel strategies of companies. In the result of the study, it was possible to achieve the goal of the work: to identify significant competencies of leaders in retail, formed under the influence of global and Russian trends, as well as to describe recommendations on the development of personnel strategies of retail organizations in terms of selection and development of leaders.
