The research work is aimed at highlighting theoretical approaches to the design of the operating environment and improving the operational efficiency of business processes. The work includes a theoretical consideration of the issues of designing the operating environment and tools that contribute to the selection of the correct configuration of the system elements. It is based on a concrete historical approach and a critical analysis of scientific sources, the study of best practices in designing enterprise operating systems from various fields, as well as examples of the use of lean manufacturing tools in organizations and practical recommendations for improving the design process, improving business processes that affect the quality of the operating system. The considered indicators and tools aimed at improving the operating system of a retail organization will serve as a theoretical basis and tools for improving the efficiency of both individual business processes and the entire system as a whole and will become one of the keys to achieving a cost minimization strategy by retail chain companies.
