The Provision of Social Support to Russian Emigres by Russian Military Organizations in Europe (1920-1939)

This study reveals the role of military organisations of Russian emigrants in providing social support in Europe (1920-1939). On the basis of unpublished archival materials and emigrant periodicals, donors and recipients of assistance are identified, its main types and strategies are revealed as well as the issues of financing and motives of social assistance. It is proved in this study that emigrants' social welfare activities were an important component that mitigated the adaptation of Russian refugees. It also shows an important features of social assistance of military organisations in comparison with the same activities of other organisations of the Russian Abroad.
