Font design is a complex and technologically intricate process. Repetitive visual techniques are formed during the design process, allowing for the determination of the font's historical period. This study aims to systematise and categorise visual patterns for each period, looking at the process of creating typefaces as a means of historical background. Thus, the research results of this study were formed from the written (sketches, letterpress prints) and technical sources presented (typographic programmes, presses and punches). As a result of visual research, four visual characteristics were identified during the font design process that allow the font to be attributed to a certain period of time: symmetry, geometric shapes, contouring, and variable coding. The theoretical conclusion obtained can be applied to future research in the field of headset design.
