Year of Graduation: 2024

In recent decades, energy-related issues have become increasingly important to states. The disruption of energy supplies and increased sanctions policies have drawn attention to the problem of improving energy efficiency and accelerating the energy transition. The European Union countries have felt the structural changes in the energy sector most acutely. In the context of geopolitical tensions, when there is a significant transformation of global energy cooperation, the studies pay insufficient attention to a comprehensive approach to Russia's role transformation from the beginning of the first Ukrainian crisis to 2024. European countries are actively demonstrating non-cooperation with Russia, but they are not ready to give up the energy resources of the Russian Federation. The study aims to trace character of evolution of Russia's role in ensuring the energy security of EU countries from 2014 to 2023. The paper will examine the main triggers and drivers that have affected Russia's market share in the European Union. The results obtained will help to assess the change in Russia's market share and in the future to forecast the future course of energy cooperation between Russia and the European Union.
