The space industry is actively developing in the age of high technology and the information age. Russia, China and the United States are leaders in the development of this area. In the interaction of countries, two opposite trends can be noted - competition and cooperation. A huge number of sanctions imposed on the space sector of Russia and China affected their competitiveness, continuing to negatively affect at the present time. The object of this study is space activities in Russia and China. The subject is the impact of sanctions on the development of space activities in the countries under consideration in the period from 1992 to 2020. The purpose of the work is to conduct a comparative analysis of the development of space activities in the Russian Federation and China under the influence of sanctions. A hypothesis is also put forward: sanctions negatively affect such socio-economic factors in the development of space activities in the countries under consideration as financing and budgeting, international cooperation, and trade. The first chapter of the work reflects the theoretical aspects of the analysis of the development of the space industry under the influence of sanctions. In the second, the impact of the imposed restrictions on the development of the space industry is assessed. The final chapter presents an analysis of the obtained results of assessing the impact of sanctions restrictions on the development of the space industry and its development prospects in Russia and China. The study uses several methods: 1) theoretical (analysis, synthesis and classification), 2) practical (cross-country comparison, statistical analysis, econometric analysis, namely, non-linear regressions in the framework of competitiveness assessment based on the MCM model). Books and scientific journals in Russian, Chinese and English, electronic materials and statistical data were used as sources. The following results of the study are expected: assessment of the competitiveness of the space industry in the countries under consideration during the period of sanctions, determination of the level of damage caused to the space industry under the influence of sanctions, and proposals for the further successful development of the space industry. Key words: Russian Federation, China, space industry, competitiveness, sanctions.
