This paper examines the Turkish factor, which consists of four aspects (Turkey's attitude toward the Assad regime, interaction with the Islamic opposition, the fight against Kurdish groups, and cooperation with Iran and Russia) and its impact on American policy toward the Syrian crisis in 2017-2023. Despite the peripherality of the Syrian civil war in U.S. Middle East policy, the conflict occupies a significant place in U.S.-Turkish relations, in part because of the contradictions in the states' approaches. Therefore, the United States takes the Turkish factor into account when implementing its policy in the conflict.
