The United States, as the dominant force in the semiconductor technology and equipment sector, has strategically used export controls in its trade policy to maintain its technological superiority and dominance in the global market. These actions have been prompted by various strategic concerns including intellectual property infringement, technology theft, and the presence of unfair competitive practices by other countries, according to U.S. officials. The topic is in the spotlight these days, highlighting key aspects of international economic interaction and competition in technology. Restricting exports of advanced semiconductor equipment is becoming one of the strategic measures applied by countries to protect their economic interests and strengthen national security. Between 2018 and 2023, the international arena witnessed an intensification of trade tensions between the world's leading economies, particularly between the US and China, given that the technology sector was at the forefront of these disputes. The American strategy regarding export controls on sophisticated semiconductor technology has had a significant impact on the global economy, setting new norms of competition in the global technological and trade spheres. The issue is therefore of interest to a wide range of people, including academics, policymakers, business leaders and the public, because of its profound implications for global diplomacy, innovation and economic sustainability.
