Digital platforms are now transforming entire industries and socio-economic activities. Over the past two decades, the development and application of digital technologies actively used by platform companies have contributed to economic growth around the world. As the platform economy evolves, both new opportunities and challenges are emerging. In order to identify trends and prospects for the platform economy, it is necessary to understand how platforms contribute to the economic growth of countries. This paper examines the main economic trends associated with digital platforms, the factors and directions of platforms' impact on economic performance, and the specifics of digital platform economy development in Germany and the Netherlands. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to identify trends and prospects of its development and impact on socio-economic indicators in Germany and the Netherlands to make further recommendations based on the analysis of the components of the platform economy. The main tool to achieve this goal is the construction of a regression model based on panel data to simulate the impact of the level of development of the platform economy on the economic development of the European Union countries. The analysis serves as a basis for conceptual recommendations to improve the regulation of digital platforms in these countries.
