Specifics of Unconscious Relationship of Entrepreneurs Who Have Committed Crimes in the Economic Sphere

According to law enforcement statistics, the number of criminal cases against entrepreneurs in Russia is steadily increasing. Thus, entrepreneurs accused of financial crimes represent a significant portion of the audience that may require psychoanalytic business counseling: both to cope with current anxieties and to transit into a "new life" without committing previous mistakes. The purpose of this master's thesis is to study the unconscious attitudes of entrepreneurs who have committed crimes in the economic sphere. The study is based on the hypothesis that financial crimes are rooted in an unresolved Oedipal complex: frustration with the father during childhood and adolescence, and later with the state as a father figure. Unresolved grief and the use of primitive defense mechanisms contribute to the delinquent behavior of entrepreneurs. To address the empirical tasks, a biographical interview method followed by psychodynamic analysis was used (nine real cases). Additionally, the character of Bobby Axelrod from the TV series "Billions" is considered as an empirical base for the study. The results of the study can be used to develop economic crime prevention programs and to rehabilitate entrepreneurs facing legal consequences of their actions. Moreover, the study showed that most entrepreneurs who have committed financial crimes consider the possibility of working with a psychoanalytic coach. They are interested in exploring their own motives and reactions, the reasons for their delinquent behavior, and finding new ways to build relationships with other people and career path within the legal framework. This aspect is of particular interest to practicing psychoanalytical coaches and therapists.
