This paper examines the features of Algeria’s policy towards Morocco in 2019-2023. Algeria historically has been considered to be one of the leading African countries because of its notable economic and military strength as well as political influence in the region. In recent years, Algeria has adopted a more assertive approach in its foreign policy and the relations with its regional rival, Morocco, have worsened significantly. Although the Algerian-Moroccan relations have been a subject of various scientific works, modern foreign policy of Algeria has remained understudied. This work aims to fill this gap by identifying the key features of Algeria’s policy towards Morocco under the government of Abdelmadjid Tebboune. In order to do so, we employ document analysis and comparative historical analysis, which allow us to indicate the main stages of historical development of Algerian-Moroccan relations and gain a nuanced understanding of Algerian policy towards Morocco in 2019-2023. The findings of this study will contribute to the research in the field of Algerian foreign policy under Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Furthermore, the work may have implications for the literature on conflict resolution and regional integration beyond North Africa offering insight into the role of historical grievances and power struggle in it.
