The Role of Book Publishing in the Soviet Youth Policy in 1954-1975: the Case of the "Molodaia Gvardia" Publishing House

This thesis is devoted to the role of the publishing house “Molodaya Gvardiya” in the realization of the Soviet youth policy in the post-Stalin period - 1954-1975. The paper reconstructs the structure and managerial logic of the publishing house “Molodaya Gvardiya”, the peculiarities of its relationship with the Central Committee of the Komsomol. The peculiarities of cultural programs addressed to youth in the books of different editions of the publishing house are shown. On the material of the transcripts of party meetings of the publishing house the main trends of the Soviet youth policy in the field of book publishing are highlighted: labor mobilization, dissemination of knowledge about science and technology, creation of books about agriculture, implementation of programs of aesthetic and military-patriotic education and coverage of youth movements in Western countries.
