The Transportation of Textiles and Cement by Rail in Russia at the Turn of the 20th Century

Student: Marina Balakhonskaya

Supervisor: Mikhail Davydov

Faculty: Faculty of Humanities

Educational Programme: History (Bachelor)

Year of Graduation: 2024

The main goal of this study was to reconstruct the picture of sales and receipt of cement and manufactory goods, as well as the distribution of these two goods in the country at the turn of the 20th century. The main source of the work was "Summary statistics of transportations by Russian railways", when analysing which we can get a detailed geographical structure of the selected markets. "Summary statistics" proved its potential for the analysis of the cement industry, but the analysis of manufactory goods did not prove to be as representative due to the peculiarities of the source.
