The UAE and Qatar are two small monarchies in the Persian Gulf that have risen from lowly oil exporters to influential players in the political arena. This paper examines the approaches of Qatar and the UAE in foreign policy in relation to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in order to identify the characteristic features for each of the two countries. The factors that shaped the policies of both countries will be explored, as well as the impact of the Arab Spring processes on the system of regional international relations and the challenges faced by Qatar and the UAE.
