The situation in the Taiwan Strait has always attracted the attention of the international community and many researchers, and with Tsai Ing-wen coming to power, interest in this topic has increased significantly. The deterioration of the situation in the Taiwan Strait could seriously affect the regional situation and global security. It is important to note that Tsai Ing-wen's policies have had a significant impact on relations between mainland China and Taiwan, confirming that her strategy is closely linked to the regional situation across the Taiwan Strait and deserves in-depth analysis. Although much research has been done on this topic, much less attention has been paid to changes in relations between China and Taiwan, especially in the context of events taking place in the Taiwan Strait, which are indicators of the real situation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the evolution of China-Taiwan relations during Tsai Ing-wen's presidency, determine the reasons for the increase in tensions, assess the current situation in the Strait and its impact on the situation in the Taiwan Strait. In addition, the question of possible other factors influencing the situation is being explored. The relevance of this work is due to the fact that, despite many other factors, the political situation in the Taiwan Strait still directly depends on the policies pursued by the elected leaders of Taiwan. The current situation in cross-Strait relations is largely the result of the political decisions of the Taiwanese President. The study in this article focuses on aspects of President Tsai Ing-wen's foreign policy and its impact on the deteriorating situation in the Taiwan Strait. This research will be carried out using the following methods: descriptive research to explore the main factors of the changing political environment in the Taiwan Strait. Using the methods of historical research, description, analysis and induction will help reveal the relationship between Tsai Ing-wen's policies and increasing tensions in the region. The data obtained can contribute to Russian oriental studies, since they will be relevant not only for mainland China, but also for the island of Taiwan, and will also have a practical impact on the economic and political situation in the region and Taiwan as a whole. World. Finally, it is without a doubt worth noting that Tsai Ing-wen's rise to power and her actions acted as a catalyst and played a significant role in the deterioration of cross-Strait relations, but towards the end of her term the negative impact began to intensify. The impact on the situation has decreased due to the growing importance of other factors. It is therefore necessary to recognize that other aspects, such as Xi Jinping's ambitions, US interests, the growing confrontation between Beijing and Washington, and the changing sentiment and identity of the Taiwanese people, also play a role in the deteriorating situation in the Taiwan Strait region. Key words: Taiwan Strait, Tsai Ing-wen's policy, Sino-Taiwan relations.
