The Impact of the 2022 Sanctions on the Integration of the EAEU Markets of Goods

In 2022, a number of Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia. Although this has made it more difficult for Russia to access the Western market, it has resulted in the historically high volume of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) mutual trade. The current literature lacks a comprehensive analysis of the factors influencing trade turnover and the integration of commodity markets among the EAEU countries. Additionally, there is a notable absence of precise evaluations regarding the impact of short-term factors (parallel imports, re-exports, relocation of Russian citizens and enterprises) and long-term factors (increase in industrial cooperation, establishment of regional value chains) on further integration of the EAEU market of goods. The study addresses this research gap by systematizing the identified determinants of mutual trade volume and conducting an in-depth statistical analysis of the dynamics of EAEU trade indices after the imposition of sanctions. The results could contribute to the development of the Russian agenda regarding the EAEU integration processes. Keywords: EAEU, economic integration, trade, anti-Russian sanctions
