Taiwan has been hailed as a successful example of the "Asian Tigers", with developing economies swiftly progressing to advanced status in the latter part of the 20th century. Taiwan's active engagement in global trade, particularly in Global Value Chains (GVCs), has been crucial in achieving this status. This study aims to examine Taiwan's participation in GVCs after the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), focusing on its connections with key partners such as the USA, China, ASEAN and Japan. The analysis will encompass both quantitative and qualitative assessments, including forward and backward linkages, Trade in Added Value (TiVA), effects of trade diversion, and trade creation, . The study will explore these factors at both a broad level and a company-specific level with the case studies of Foxconn and TSMC. The findings can be used to evaluate the impact of these events and trends on other economies heavily involved in GVCs and offer insights into considering risks and changing variables for the development strategies of multinational corporations in Taiwan. Keywords: GVCs, TiVA, US-China trade war, trade diversion, TSMC, Semiconductors.
