Our study raises the question of the perception of the power of the sovereign in the narratives of the Anjou county in the middle of the 12th century, in the ‘Book of the construction of the castles of Amboise’ and the ‘Chronicle of the deeds of the Counts of Anjou’. By means of comparative analysis of the main sources with the Norman ‘Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy’ we reveal the specificity of territorial terminology and the statuses of their owners. Following this, by examining the descriptions of kings' accessions to the throne, we identify the balance of power between the ruler and his entourage in the Angevin writings during the struggle for the English kingdom.
