This thesis explores the crucial role of France in shaping the European Union's energy transition policy in the context of the EU's commitment to greening its energy policy post the Paris Agreement. As a prominent energy producer and consumer, France's distinct position in the nuclear energy sector uniquely situates it to exert considerable influence on the EU's approach to energy transition. This influence manifests through a variety of channels, including international agreements initiated by France at both the EU and global levels, as well as through its active participation in pan-European energy projects and initiatives aimed at facilitating the energy transition. The research focuses on understanding the dynamics of French influence in the EU energy landscape, analyzing how France's energy policies, particularly its strong advocacy for nuclear energy, shape the broader EU energy strategy. The thesis aims to unravel the complexities of France's involvement and assess the impact of its actions on the EU's energy transition trajectory. By examining these aspects, the study provides insights into the strategic positioning of France in the European energy sector and its pivotal role in steering the EU towards a more sustainable energy future.
