North Korea is a unique example of a socialist regime in which every sphere has been under the control of the Juche ideology for 75 years. Sustainable control over the film industry and the use of cinema as a propaganda tool implemented by the DPRK can become an example for other countries in the context of confrontation. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of propaganda of the political regime through the prism of North Korean cinema in the period between 1973 and 1992. I will employ a semiotic method that analyzes the signs and symbols of North Korean films to identify those propaganda characteristics in the DPRK films. Additionally, the content analysis will be applied to study the speeches and works of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. This research will expand the theoretical knowledge of the DPRK propaganda today and will give researchers in the fields of politics and Oriental studies deeper understanding of using propaganda tools in cinematography based on the DPRK example. Keywords: North Korea, DPRK, cinema, propaganda, political regime
